At Animal Trust, we know that if your pet needs orthopaedic care it can be a stressful time for both of you. We’re proud to have a experienced team providing the highest standard of care for pets, whether it’s as part of emergency vet care or to repair long-standing orthopaedic problems.
At our surgeries, our orthopaedic surgeons and veterinary nurses understand the importance of an accurate diagnosis, swift treatment and the best aftercare, so you can rest assured you and the patient are in the best hands at Animal Trust. We offer orthopaedic surgery at our Shrewsbury, Bolton, and Ellesmere Port locations.
What is veterinary orthopaedics?
Orthopaedics for pets is the part of veterinary medicine that deals with bones, joints, the skeleton and things like tendons, muscles and ligaments. At Animal Trust our orthopaedics team deals primarily with both dogs and cats, providing the best possible care through corrective and preventative treatments.
What does an orthopaedic vet do?
At Animal Trust, we perform hundreds of orthopaedic operations and small animal surgery treatments every year and are able to offer a wide range of procedures to our patients with orthopaedic conditions. This includes repair of fractures, cruciate repair with Securos TTA system.
Some of the orthopaedics services and conditions our specialists provide treatment for include:
- Trauma fracture repair (particularly from road traffic accidents)
- Limb deformities and correction
- Cruciate ligament surgery
- Osteoarthritis treatment
- Patella luxation
- Elbow dysplasia treatment
- Sprain and other joint diseases or injuries
When you book an appointment for orthopaedic advice or care, the consultants on the team at your Animal Trust surgery will perform a thorough initial assessment to make sure we know exactly what your pet needs. We’ll go through a treatment plan and answer any questions you may have, and the team will discuss aftercare options (such as medication and potential other treatments like physiotherapy or hydrotherapy, for example) so you know we’re always on hand.
Orthopaedic Surgery Pricing
We perform lots of surgical procedures throughout our surgeries. An estimation of prices for some of the orthopaedic surgeries can be found on our prices page.
All prices stated are estimates and are the price if paid at admission. They are inclusive of the cost of the anaesthetic, immediate post-operative medication and VAT.
What to expect when your pet is referred to our orthopaedic team
Pets can be sent for orthopaedic referral for a number of issues. Our team is experienced in a variety of issues and treatments, so you can rest assured that you’ll get the best possible care at your Animal Trust surgery.
Your vet may use diagnostic tools and procedures such as digital radiography, CT scans and MRI scans to take a look at your pet’s issues. We’ll then talk you through the treatment, prognosis and after-care.
How to book orthopaedic veterinary care with Animal Trust
You don’t need to be a pre-existing member of Animal Trust to benefit from orthopaedic advice and treatment from our veterinary teams.
As well as operating on patients who regularly attend Animal Trust surgeries, we also help patients who have been seen at other practices – particularly where their normal vet is unable to offer the appropriate orthopaedic service, or is unable to offer it at an accessible cost.
Animal Trust operates on a not for profit basis, and providing affordable treatment for those who need it most is at the heart of everything we do. So whether it’s cat knee surgery or advice from an orthopaedic vet for dogs, we’d love to help.
