Important Notice: Avian or Bird Flu Alert

Bird Flu Alert

Signs of Avian Influenza in birds

Avian Influenza or Bird Flu is a serious disease that can spread quickly among birds. If you keep birds or come across sick or dead wild birds, watch out for these key signs:

  • Lack of energy: birds appear unusually quiet, don’t respond as usual, and may not come for food or treats. They might sit fluffed up and seem tired.

  • Huddling: birds may cluster together in nests or around water and food areas.

  • Sudden deaths: if multiple birds die suddenly in the same space, this could be a sign of an outbreak.

If you have concerns about wild birds, please report them to DEFRA on 03459 33 55 77 or online via GOV.UK

If you encounter a sick or injured bird, contact your nearest Animal Trust team before attempting to pick it up. Please do not bring the bird to the Animal Trust practice without contacting us first. Your cooperation helps protect both our pets and local wildlife, thank you for understanding.
