Heart Scan for Willow at Animal Trust Birkenhead

Willow: Heart Scan at Animal Trust Birkenhead

Thirteen-year-old Whippet Willow came to see us after her owners noticed some changes in her breathing. As Willow has a heart murmur, our team carried out a full heart check, including an ECG, blood pressure and chest X-rays, before investigating her breathing further.

Willow was diagnosed with mitral valve disease, but the good news is that it’s at an early stage (Stage B1) so no medication is needed at this time. Her blood pressure was also completely normal. Her chest X-rays showed no concerning changes, meaning her breathing issues are most likely linked to joint pain rather than her heart.

Our plan for Willow:
• Regular heart and murmur checks, with blood pressure monitoring every 3–6 months
• Heart scans recommended every 6–12 months

We’re pleased to report that Willow is doing well and will continue to be closely monitored to ensure she feels her best.

At Animal Trust Birkenhead, we’re proud to offer heart scans with one of our vets specialising in cardiac imaging to help diagnose and monitor heart conditions like Willow’s. A heart scan / Echocardiogram is £419 with Animal Trust.
