Molly: Animal Trust Wrexham Helping with Vet Anxiety

We understand that visiting the vet can be stressful for some dogs. New environments, unfamiliar smells, and handling can feel overwhelming, especially for nervous pets. Our team works closely with owners to provide supportive, low-stress veterinary care, helping dogs gradually build confidence when visiting the clinic. Molly’s journey shows how patience, positive reinforcement and regular support can make a real difference for dogs experiencing vet visit anxiety.

Molly’s First Vet Visits

When Molly first visited our Wrexham veterinary clinic, her appointments were extremely stressful for her. She was very vocal and reactive, which meant it was difficult for our team to carry out a full examination. The new environment and physical handling felt overwhelming, and Molly needed plenty of time and space just to settle. Recognising that Molly needed a slower, more supportive approach, our team recommended attending our anxiety clinic sessions.

Anxiety Clinic Support at Animal Trust Vets Wrexham

Over the past year, Molly has attended regular sessions with veterinary nurse Heather at Animal Trust Wrexham. These appointments are designed specifically for dogs that feel nervous or anxious at the vet, helping them build confidence gradually through calm, positive experiences. Using a tailored approach and positive reinforcement training, Molly began to make steady progress. Her owner also played an important role, supporting Molly at home with training, including successful muzzle training to help her feel safer during handling.

Every visit was adjusted to how Molly was feeling on the day. This sometimes meant:

  • Meeting outside the clinic first

  • Taking things slowly and allowing Molly time to explore

  • Using treats, games, and positive reinforcement

  • Paying close attention to Molly’s body language

Over time, Molly began to associate the clinic with positive experiences.

Molly’s Progress

Today, Molly is far more relaxed during her visits to Animal Trust Wrexham.

She can now:

  • Walk into the consultation room more confidently

  • Engage with treats and games during appointments

  • Choose to approach our team for fuss

  • Relax enough to lie on her side for gentle handling

  • Accept brief examinations and equipment using positive reinforcement

In June, Molly was able to receive her routine vaccinations, and at her most recent visit she remained calm and relaxed while allowing a full examination, including being checked with a stethoscope.
