Pet A&E: Emergency Ball Retrieval

This is Korker, a four-year-old Dachshund who was rushed into Animal Trust Barnsley's out-of-hours Pet A&E service one weekend in severe pain. His worried owner knew something wasn’t right, so our dedicated emergency team carried out thorough checks, including X-rays and an ultrasound, to get to the root of the problem. It turned out that Korker had swallowed a ball, which was causing him significant discomfort and could have been life-threatening without prompt treatment.
Vet surgeon Megan performed the surgery to remove the ball safely. Thanks to her skill and the support of our nursing team, the procedure went smoothly. Korker then spent two days recovering in our clinic, where he received expert monitoring, pain relief, and, of course, plenty of cuddles from the team. By the time he was ready to head home, his tail was wagging again.
At Animal Trust, we understand emergencies can happen at any time, which is why our Pet A&E services are available to provide urgent care when pets need it most, open 24/7 every day of the year. From accidents and sudden illnesses to those worrying moments when you just know something is wrong, our vets are here night and day to provide the treatment and reassurance pets – and their owners – deserve.
