What if I have an emergency outside of normal opening hours?

Call the normal number for your local clinic to speak to the emergency team. Unfortunately, we don’t usually offer emergency vet home visits, so you will be required to bring your pet to the surgery for our vet to consult. If you have any queries about this, please get in touch with your local surgery.

What if I have an emergency during normal opening hours?

Emergency cases during daytime hours do not need an appointment. However, before arriving, please do call the local surgery on the numbers above to let us know you are on your way.

Will we need to wait to be seen for an emergency?

Emergencies are seen on a triage basis with the sickest patients seen first. At busy times this may mean that non-urgent cases have a long wait and we appreciate your understanding and patience with this.

What is the cost of a veterinary emergency?

For registered clients, emergency vet appointments (out of hours) cost £75. Non-registered Animal Trust clients will also need to pay a £20 registration fee.

With the exception of the out of hours supplement, all our other fees are the same as during our core surgery operating hours.

For Animal Trust clients who have been seen by us in the last 12 months, the out of hours supplement is:

If you are not already an Animal Trust client, there is a new client registration fee of ÂŁ20 in addition to the out of hours cost above. Charges may also apply at weekends and bank holidays.

Animals from across the North West of England, North Wales, Shropshire and beyond use Animal Trust and we are proud to be able to offer an affordable in-house emergency vet service at Ellesmere Port, Bolton and Shrewsbury.

There is currently a nationwide shortage of vets. In the event of a staffing shortage at one surgery you may be redirected to another Animal Trust surgery to access emergency care.

Are you sure you need an emergency vet?

It’s not unusual for our pets to get into a spot of bother, both in and out of the home. From eating something they shouldn’t to getting tangled in the garden, there are so many ways our pets can get themselves in trouble.

Pets are members of the family, so it’s completely natural to worry about their health. We understand that sometimes it can be difficult to tell whether your furry friend really needs urgent emergency vet care, or if a normal appointment will do.
