CT Scanning for Pets

CT scanning (computed tomography) is an advanced imaging technique that creates detailed 3D images of your pet’s internal organs, bones, and tissues.

It can help diagnose conditions that may not be clearly visible on standard X-rays or ultrasound scans. CT scans are often recommended when further investigation is needed, or to help plan surgery and treatment.

Which Animal Trust surgeries offer CT scans?

We provide CT scanning for pets at our Bolton and Ellesmere Port surgeries. Our CT scanning services are available for both Animal Trust patients and pets referred by other veterinary practices. We also offer ultrasound and X-ray imaging services across all Animal Trust surgeries.

CT Scan Cost

CT scans at Animal Trust cost £1019 for one body area.

This includes:

  • The CT scan

  • General anaesthesia

  • Routine monitoring during the procedure

Additional body areas are charged at £350 each.

What is a CT scan?

CT scanning uses X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images of your pet’s body. These images are combined to produce a highly detailed 3D view of internal structures, including bones, organs, blood vessels, and soft tissues.

CT scans can be particularly useful for:

  • Investigating fractures and joint problems

  • Assessing tumours and some cancers

  • Examining internal organs and soft tissues

  • Diagnosing complex conditions more clearly

  • Planning certain surgical procedures

What happens during a CT scan?

CT scans are performed under general anaesthesia so your pet remains completely still during the procedure. This helps us obtain clear, detailed images. The scan itself is usually quick, but preparation, anaesthesia, and recovery mean most pets stay with us for much of the day.

After the scan, your pet will be monitored while they recover from the anaesthetic. Most pets can go home later the same day once they are comfortable and fully awake.

The images are reviewed by our veterinary team, and we will discuss the results and any recommended treatment or next steps with you afterwards.

Other imaging services

In addition to CT scanning, we also provide ultrasound and X-ray imaging services across our Animal Trust surgeries.

Book a CT scan

If your pet has been recommended for a CT scan, our team can help arrange this at our Bolton or Ellesmere Port surgeries. We accept referrals from other veterinary practices, so you can also ask your usual vet to refer your pet to Animal Trust for CT scanning.
