What are the common reasons why is my pet eating more?

- Growth and life stage 

- Increased activity or energy needs 

- Diet-related causes like too small portions or low in proteins 

- Medication such as Steroids (very common) 

- Medical causes such as Diabetes (cats) (dogs), Hyperthyroidism (cats), Cushing’s Disease (dogs), intestinal parasites, malabsorption 

- Boredom or anxiety

- Measure every meal 

- Divide daily food into 2–4 meals 

- Choose foods that promote fullness (check with your vet first) 

- Use slow feeders or puzzle feeders 

- Increase safe physical activity 

- Offer attention that isn’t food 

- Feed at the same times daily 

DON'Ts – What I shouldn't do at home if my pet is eating more?

- Don't free-feed or leave food out all day 

- Don't give extra portions because they 'seem hungry' 

- Don't feed table scraps or human food
