What is Librela?

Librela® is a monoclonal antibody given by injection to control pain associated with arthritis in dogs. It works by targeting pain signals rather than acting as a traditional anti-inflammatory.

How is Librela given?
It is given as a monthly injection. It may take up to 2 doses to see signs of improvement. If little or no response is seen after this, your vet may recommend considering alternative treatments.

What benefits can I expect?
With Librela many dogs show:

  • Improved mobility

  • Increased activity

  • Better comfort

Is Librela suitable for all dogs?
No. Librela is not suitable for every dog.

It should not be used in:

  • Dogs under 12 months old

  • Pregnant, lactating or breeding dogs

This medication will only be used if your vet feels it is appropriate for your dog.

Possible side effects of Librela

  • Injection site reaction

  • Lethargy

  • Reduced appetite

  • Vomiting or diarrhoea

  • Wobbliness or difficulty walking

  • Weakness or collapse

  • Loss of bladder control

If you notice any side effects or have any concerns after treatment, please contact your veterinary practice.

Important information for owners

  • Dogs may feel better quickly and overdo activity, so keep exercise controlled at first

  • Monitor your dog closely after each injection
